While most of US citizens are travelling to destinations like Mexico or Costa Rica for their dental care or plastic procedure, most of Europeans especially from England and Ireland are travelling to Budapest the capital of Hungary to have their dental treatments done at a more affordable price.
Why Hungary has become so popular in offering high quality dental care?
Many consider that first western European dental patients to Hungary were from UK however they were actually the Germans and Austrians who were much closer to the benefits they could get from Hungarian dentists. Among all dental treatments which were available for Austrians close to the border with Hungary, dental implants were the most popular ones.
1981 was the year when the Nobel Biocare Company was established which started manufacturing first technically advanced and modern dental implants using the Branemark system. At that time dental implants were much too expensive for anyone even in developed countries like Austria or Germany and mostly because of the dentists’ labor costs.
Hungarian dentists were one huge step ahead of other dentists’ education from other countries which after all paid off in their recognition as best dental specialists all through out Europe. Dental education was very rigorous in Hungary with five year study at the University and at least three years of practical trainings.
After Austrian and German patients have invaded dental clinics at neighboring cities at the Austrian border with Hungary, slowly but steadily more and more patients from England and Ireland started to visit Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Dental implants remained the top priority of dental treatments available at Hungarian dental clinics. One of the reasons why British people started to travel abroad for their dental treatments was the long waiting lists for an NHS dentist which could last for up to 9 months. Besides these, an NHS dentist most often did not have enough experience for a dental procedure like dental implants and could not take responsibility for such a complicated procedure.
The private sector was far too expensive for patients in UK and Ireland and their prices were much higher than prices available in Hungary. A PriceWatch Survey published on Treatment Abroad shows that Hungary is among the most affordable destinations for dental implants. While the price for a dental implant in UK could reach £1,670 in UK, the cost for same quality dental implant in Hungary is £422 which is significantly lower.
With such a reputation Hungarian dentists have achieved, Hungary is opening its gates to other markets as well. Patients now are coming from Italy, Russia and the Scandinavians. Last but not least Hungarian dentists’ quality dental works raised the eyebrows of patients from US and Canada who were previously only considering closer options like Mexico or Costa Rica. However, those who are planning to combine their dental treatment with tourism, then Europe has plenty of attractions to visit.
